How to think happy thoughts

I’m finally getting back into the swing of things. It really energizes me to work on happiness and to share with you, tools for being happy. I thought I would start sharing quotes and happy thoughts from my happiness book and expand on them.

The quote I’d like to riff on first, is in the Introduction. It says:

The WAY you think is either an asset or a detriment to your happiness.

Emphasis added, because it’s not just what you think that determines your happiness — it’s how you think. Happy thoughts don’t always come easily. We can try to repeat positive affirmations and mantras day in and day out. Not only can that fail to make us happier, it can even make us feel worse.

So, HOW can you think that will make you happier? For everyone there will be different elements, but here are three important ways of thinking that will help get those happy thoughts flowing again:

Hope

Some of our unhappiest times come when we feel hopeless. You may feel like you are in darkness and can’t seem to find the light. This is a good time to stop, be still, and breathe. The light is always there, even if we can’t see it. Add some hope to your life. Don’t just think there is light, believe it and act on it.

Attitude of gratitude

Gratitude is a powerful, transformational power we can employ at any given moment. If you find yourself stuck in negative thoughts or feelings, gratitude will help you transform unhappy thoughts to happy thoughts. We are surrounded by gifts and miracles that we often take for granted until they are either gone or we actively choose to be grateful for them. Gratitude will help you point out the positive in any situation. It may take practice, but give it the effort, you’ll thank yourself.

You have the power

If you’re feeling hopeless or down, it is probably because you feel powerless. Well guess what — you have the power! You have the power to feel happiness. You have the power to attract happiness into your life. You have the power to create happiness! The moment you start acknowledging your own personal power your life will change for the better.

Don’t just say it: Believe it and Act on it.

Next time you’re unhappy, don’t just pay attention to what you’re thinking, pay attention to how you’re thinking. It will make all the difference.

Blessings to you, may you have peace, joy and harmony this day and all days!
